 Slither - the Year of the Snake Collection

 

In a mesmerizing dialogue between East and West, Graedance collaborates with Sydney’s Chinatown Country Club to unveil a collection that transcends time, culture, and form. Rooted in the mysticism of serpents and celestial lore, this partnership honors the Year of the Snake, weaving ancient symbolism into contemporary jewelry that bridges generations and traditions.

At the heart of the collaboration is the serpent—an emblem of transformation, duality, and eternal allure. From its presence in the Chinese zodiac to its connection with Ophiuchus, the "13th zodiac" in Western astrology, the snake speaks to rebirth, adaptability, and power. “My mother, born in the Year of the Snake, inspired this collection,” shares Graedance founder Rong Chen. “I wanted to create pieces that could adorn both her and me, building a bridge between generations, between tradition and reinvention.”

 

Design as Ritual Combat The collection finds its muse in the ancient motif of ritual combat, where serpents entwine in a fluid yet fierce embrace. This duality—a dance of tension and harmony—emerges through sculptural jewelry designed to be worn by all, crafted in 18k gold vermeil and mixed metals. Each piece adapts to the body and mood of the wearer, embodying Graedance's ethos of embracing the grey area between binaries.

Adorned with ruby and peridot accents—subtle nods to Chinatown Country Club’s palette—these designs are rich in both visual elegance and narrative weight. Distinct yet enduring, brooches, bolo ties, and fluid forms signal the future of wearable art while echoing the refinement of timeless talismans.

 

A Hidden Signature The collaboration invites wearers to look closer. Select pieces reveal a concealed “CCC” emblem—a signature of Chinatown Country Club—intertwined within the serpentine forms. This hidden detail nods to the shared values of both brands: storytelling through symbolism and a reverence for artistry.

 

Where Dualities Meet The Graedance x Chinatown Country Club collection is a manifestation of interconnected worlds. The snake’s adaptability mirrors the partnership’s spirit—bridging identities, histories, and craftsmanship. “The snake reminds us of our capacity to shed the old, embrace the new, and embody our truest selves,” says Rong.

 

This transformative collection debuted with an immersive installation at Chinatown Country Club’s ground floor. Here, contrasting worlds—ritual and modernity, East and West—entwine like serpents in combat.
